The American mall is falling into ruin.
Hundreds of malls across the country are losing retailers, closing their doors, and turning into strange little ghost towns.
It’s pretty weird and a little sad.
I remember making out with my first boyfriend near the north end escalators of the mall downtown.
My first job at the largest department store in the state.
Even losing a tooth while eating a sticky bun in the food court.
Yep, malls have definitley been a gigantic part of my life, and countless others!

Is this yet another sign of hard economic times? Not necessarily. Though monstrous mall operator General
Growth Properties has just filed for bankruptcy in the face of mountainous debt, and all sorts of retailers
have seen sales plummet, the mall began it’s death throes BEFORE the recession hit. Shoppers can find so
many more exotic and functional items on the web.

So as more and more consumers abandon shopping centers and leave them to obliteration by the
wrecking ball one gets to thinkin: Where will suburban mom’s get their power walk on now? Can’t very
well do that on Zappos.com now can they? Hmmm.
