Welcome to another fun filled episode of Bad For Business. Today we will learn what pirates and civil war soldiers know that can get you attention from customers, what you can learn from a maid about being the only and obvious choice in your market, and why putting your company name on the biggest billboard in the best part of town can do nothing for you. Remember this is the show about what works- everything else is just bad for business!
In your business the most important thing is to get attention from high quality customers- you know the ones. You want the customers that pay more, will buy often and will refer other quality prospects often. Let the pirates help- with a cannonball mailing. Let your mailing blow your customers away!
The basic idea is to get 75 to 150 high quality prospects and create a mailing that will translate well to props. Listen up as the boys run down a great list of potential props you can use. This is one of the best ways to cut through the clutter- do this well and the clutter won’t even exist for you!
Today’s tip to butt to the head of the line comes to us from a cleaning service. In an ad from “The Cleaning Authority” we read about the “patented process” by which they will clean your house better and faster- guaranteed! Using a patented process guarantees that you will never be able to compare them with any other cleaning service. How can you use this? Figure out what is unique about how you do what you do- then market it! Don’t be ordinary, that is just bad for business!
Today’s myth is about what most people think marketing is- getting your name out there. You can put your name on the biggest billboard in the best spot in town and get nothing from it. You MUST create an irresistible offer for your clients- most marketing does nothing because it just gets your name out there but there is no value behind it.
Today’s focal point is positivity- a smile can go far in your day. Most people say “When things get better, I’ll get happy” this never works. Instead, “If I get happy, things will get better.” When we can focus on the positive- and we all have positive things to focus on- everything will become more profitable and more successful.
Thanks for watching and until next week- “Stay Classy!”

Maid service. Remember the workshop at UCF were we met. I made millions based on TidyMaid’s checklist system. IT was the pitch, the training system and the rotation system years before the cleaning authority began.
